The Review: The first story where we saw the Silver Skulls was the Gildar Rift novel.

While the Gildar Rift was an enjoyable read, like most of the Space Marine Battles series, it was more of a “day in the life” story. We got to meet the Silver Skulls but aside from a few details, we never really got to know them. This is what this book rectifies. The reader finally gets down deep into the nitty-gritty and we really get to explore what it means to be a Space Marine of the Silver Skulls Chapter. We see their Fortress Monastery, explore their homeworld and the people who live there. Meet their Chapter Master and more important, we get into the minds of the Prognosticars, the warrior-oracles that serves as the backbone of the Chapter’s battle doctrine.

Slight spoilers here, but when we get a POV chapter from one of the Prognosticars, we finally get the truth of how they actually operate and the similarities they hold to other “oracles” from history.

Throughout the text, we receive briefs in form of transmissions from the Inquisition. Under the guise of priority transmissions, we are given exposition that explains the new parts of the lore that are introduced. These are some of the best ways to introduce new info without it becoming tedious. They fit into the story in a way that fits the canon.

Anyway, how this story benefits compared to the previous novel is how much more the character’s are developed. The main character is a Space Marine named Gileas who is something of an outcast due to the fact that he was recruited from a native tribe that normally does not offer recruits and the method of his recruitment was unusual. (Which is very fascinating). He is a young sergeant who is coming into his own among the Chapter and while skilled is eager for greater glory. This immediately sets him up as good character as the scenario he is in is very relatable. These are kind of Space Marine stories that work the best. We see past the power armor and bravado and the brothers inside and how despite being lauded as being a higher class of human being, they are still vulnerable to the same vices and sins as the mortals whom they think they are so superior to. Perhaps the reason they seem to be better than the average Joes and Janes of the Imperium because they live longer and can endure more and thusly learn from their lessons.

The reader travels alongside Gileas during the story and we see him grow as a character, due in no small part that he helps trains new Battle Brothers. The best stories are one where we watch characters grow and we get plenty of that in this story.

One thing that deserves to be mentioned is that the “S” in S.P. Cawkwell stands for Sarah. This book was written by a woman, the same one that wrote ‘The Gildar Rift.’ While Bookworm loves Warhammer 40k, he does acknowledge that women are sorely underrepresented in the lore as well as the fandom, at least from his perspective. To support a female author in this franchise can only help with that issue.

Building off on that, the focus may largely be on the male Space Marines, there are plenty of strong female characters to be had within this novel. We see a lot of female Inquisitors, Bookworm has just realized and they work well in that role. Ruthlessness from a woman feels a bit more authentic.

If this book has any flaws, it is one that is pretty common amongst tomes of the Black Library: Too much at once. The book’s middle is not as memorable as the beginning and the ending. Not due to a lack of story caliber, simply because there is a lot of story to remember. A lot of bolter fire, a lot of blood, a lot of characters with their own perspectives, and it all moves very briskly. The last part is not necessarily inimical to the story. If anything, it made the story into a page-turner. It all goes by so quickly, that it all tends to blur in the readers mind. Upon thinking about it, aside from a few key details, most of the story in the second act is a little muddled in Bookworm’s Mind.

Final Verdict: Silver Skulls: Portents is a fast-paced, action-packed, read that gives the reader everything they love about Warhammer 40,000. The characters are deep and fleshed-out and we meet a fascinating Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes.

Good, competent, but a bit bland
By JPS
Review first posted on the UK site on 6 December

This volume is about the Silver Skulls, a Second Foundation Chapter of Space Marines that has the particularity of having battle psykers – the Prognosticators – whose premonitions, which are supposedly a gift of the Emperor and reflect “His Will”, influence or even determine the choices made and decisions taken by the Chapter. This, unsurprisingly, attracts the curiosity and suspicion of the Inquisition. The real test, however, comes when several companies of Silver Skulls are sent on an emergency to combat an insurrection on Valoria Quintus that is backed by Chaos Space Marines who happen to be sorcerers, and ex-Thousand Sons for at least some of them.

As you will see, a number of themes are not exactly original. For instance, among the Silver Skulls, you have a slightly contrived (at least that it felt to me) opposition between two outstanding sergeants. One is a fanatical veteran of the First Company. The other one, the story’s hero, is a bit of an impetuous outcast who has doubts about the infallibility of the Prognosticators’ prognostics.

There are however also a number of interesting features. Some of the characters that make up the team of the (feminine) Inquisitor might remind readers of those found in Dan Abnett’s books, but with a few different tweaks. The Chaos Space Marines’ extraordinary mobility adds another little twist but making it more difficult for the Silver Skulls to pin them down. There is also a rather interesting witch that sets a no less interesting trap based on mirrors for our hero and his squad.

Some of the other characters and two young Prognosticators names Bhelan and Nicodemus in particular, are also interesting. This is especially the case of the later and younger one through which the reader will relive his gruelling training in the icy mountains of their home planet as a young scout. The similarities with the Space Wolves and their own training are, of course, no coincidence.

A good read, although not a great one. Just about worth four stars.

Change is Good
By Perry Allen Smith
It's about a Space Marine Chapter that is requested to aid the Imperial Inquisition and their Imperial Guard allies with crushing a rebellion on a nearby world. The Skulls refuse to act on anything if their Prognosticators (rune-priests, basically) read the future as unfavorable. They get the green light, but what they think will be a swift victory turns into a vicious fight against an old foe, and the Inquisition has an agenda up its sleeve.

Overall, this was a very good book. The villains (a Chaos sorcerers warband split from the Traitor Legion the Thousand Sons, called the Oracles of Change) are decent, though a little underdeveloped. Two of the best characters are actually one of the veteran Skulls and a psychic of the Inquisition, neither of whom is the main character. You see the veteran go from a prejudiced bastard who finds fault in even the tiniest thing of the main character to a man who actually has a degree of respect for him, and it's a huge transformation. The psychic is a frail-as-a-leaf older man who says the most tactless things at the worst times, but he has willpower like you wouldn't believe and forces himself through some very dangerous ordeals.

The action scenes were good, though Cawkwell could have done a bit better (or an editor could have cleaned up) with some of the language. The title "Oracle of Change" is used a lot, when a variety of other options exists, and the word "whilst" is thrown about and comes off as old fashioned and out of place. The level of usual Black Library gore is present, so no surprises there.

Ultimately, I recommend the book. It has a solid plot with wonderful characters that entertain in surprising and endearing ways, and that is really the most rewarding read: when characters improve and become something new and incredible.

Highly recommend.

The Ten Commandments for Business Failure, by Donald R. Keough

Don Keough—a former top executive at Coca-Cola and now chairman of the elite investment banking firm Allen & Company—has witnessed plenty of failures in his sixty-year career (including New Coke). He has also been friends with some of the most successful people in business history, including Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Jack Welch, Rupert Murdoch, and Peter Drucker.

Now this elder statesman reveals how great enterprises get into trouble. Even the smartest executives can fall into the trap of believing in their own infallibility. When that happens, more bad decisions are sure to follow.

This light-hearted “how-not-to” book includes anecdotes from Keough's long career as well as other infamous failures. His commandments for failure include: Quit Taking Risks; Be Inflexible; Assume Infallibility; Put All Your Faith in Experts; Send Mixed Messages; and Be Afraid of the Future.

As he writes, “After a lifetime in business I've never been able to develop a step-by-step formula that will guarantee success. What I could do, however, was talk about how to lose. I guarantee that anyone who follows my formula will be a highly successful loser.”

From Publishers Weekly
A former president of the Coca-Cola Company, Keough has assembled an enviable Rolodex in his 81 years, and his book counts Bill Gates, Jack Welch and Warren Buffett among its champions. His lessons draw upon his long and varied career—from his early days as a philosophy major to his first job as a TV sports announcer and employment at Butternut Coffee and Coca-Cola—and comprise a list of tongue-in-cheek rules guaranteed to make the follower a true loser in business: from quit taking risks and be inflexible to don't take time to think and be afraid of the future. Keough supports his commandments with stories of business mistakes and failures, both his own—the roll-out of New Coke, for example—and those of others—namely, Schlitz beer and IBM. While the author's clear and encouraging tone and renown within the business community will likely garner his effort publicity, the unoriginality of the material—all standard business-book fare simply phrased in the negative—keeps this well-meaning book from standing out or offering original advice to business leaders in the market for a little self-improvement. From Booklist
Keough, a distinguished corporate executive, offers a perspective on failure that is especially applicable to leaders who have attained some degree of success. With a foreword by his longtime friend and associate Warren Buffett, the renowned investor, the author presents a chapter on each of his 10 commandments for failure and adds a bonus chapter about how losing passion for work and for life is a certain route to disaster. His failure commandments include stop taking risks; be inflexible; isolate yourself; assume infallibility; play the game close to the foul line (which offers thoughtful commentary on ethics); don’t take time to think; put all your faith in outside consultants; love your bureaucracy; send mixed messages; and be afraid of the future. Keough’s book is rich with examples of failure, and he gives advice on how to recover from mistakes while learning from them and moving ahead. This is an excellent book with valuable insight for corporate executives and those aspiring to corporate leadership. --Mary Whaley

Straight talk from a principled, no-nonsense, and street-smart former CEO
By Robert Morris
One of the fantasy dinners I occasionally think about would include several CEOs and one of them would definitely be Donald Keough. I tracked his career at Coca-Cola and then his association with Allen & Company as its chairman of the board. Regrettably, I never had the chance to meet him (much less dine with him) but was not surprised by the intelligence and sensitivity as well as circumspection that are revealed in his book. Keough is principled but he also possesses what Ernest Hemingway once characterized as "a built-in, shock-proof crap detector." He confirms a suspicion I have had for years: there are many different paths to business success but all business failures share common causes. Keough discusses ten of them, identifying each (with tongue somewhat in cheek) as a "commandment." He candidly acknowledges that throughout his career, he has broken (or at least bent) several of them when making a bad or at least ill-advised decision, notably the one he and former Coca-Cola CEO Roberto Goizueta made involving New Coke. He draws heavily upon his years at that company (1981-1993), citing real-world examples of business failure at a wide variety of companies, some of them otherwise quite successful and highly reputable.

No good purpose would be served if I merely listed the ten "commandments." Keough devotes a separate chapter to each and his insights are best revealed in context. However, I will provide a representative selection of brief excerpts to indicate the thrust and flavor of Keough's narrative, adding a comment or two of my own.

Excerpt: "A company doesn't fail to do anything. Individuals do, and when you probe a bit you usually find that failure lies not in a litany of strategic mistakes - though they may all be present in one form or another - but the real fault lies, as Shakespeare noted, in ourselves, the leaders of the business. Businesses are the product and the extension of the personal characteristics of its leaders - the lengthened shadows of the men and women who run them. (Pages 8-9)

Excerpt: "As Peter Drucker pointed out nearly fifty years ago, it is management's major task to prudently risk a company's present assets in order to ensure its future existence. In fact, if a company never has a failure, I submit that their management is probably not discontented enough to justify their salaries. Xerox was not discontented in any way. They were very, very comfortable, and, as I've noted, when you're comfortable, the temptation to quit taking risks is so great, it'd almost irresistible. And failure is almost inevitable."(Page 23)

Excerpt: "Charles Kettering, the great engineering genius who helped steer General Motors during its glory years, said `Don't bring me anything but trouble. Good news weakens me.' It is instructive that during World War II, Winston Churchill created a special office whose sole duty was to bring him bad news. He wanted the unvarnished truth, no matter what it was...Isolation [from painful realities], carried to its most extreme form, tends to breed a sense of almost divine right."(Pages 51 & 57)

Excerpt: "Watch out for bright lights that surround themselves with dim bulbs!" (Page 55)

Excerpt: "The Jesuit priest and distinguished paleontologist Teilhard de Chardin noted that `no evolutionary future awaits man except in association with all other men.' Therefore, it not only behooves us to treat our fellow human beings with compassion and respect, it is essential for our collective survival. Unethical men and women can flourish for periods, sometimes very long periods, but ultimately their lack of morality - and their lack of humility - destroys them. You cannot build a strong and lasting business on a rotten foundation." (Page 77)

Excerpt: "If you want to get nothing done, make sure that administrative concerns take precedence over all others! Love your bureaucracy!...There are layers upon layers of people, yet when a customer calls, nobody's home. They are all in meetings. These meetings generate more paperwork, more e-mails, more calls, more meetings. In fact, most often there are meetings to plan meetings. Meetings are the religious service of a great bureaucracy and the bureaucrats are fervently religious."(Pages 116 & 120)

With regard to this last excerpt, I am again reminded of James O'Toole's observation that many of the barriers to change initiatives are cultural, resulting from what he aptly describes as "the ideology of comfort and the tyranny of custom." Bureaucrats tend to be the most vigorous defenders of the status quo until convinced that any proposed change will not threaten their own subculture. It should also br noted that waste is one of the most important themes in Keough's book, one that is directly relevant to most (if not all) of his commandments. Drill down to determine the root causes of a business failure and you'll probably find extensive waste of resources and opportunities. In 1963, Peter Drucker shared this insight that remains true today: "There is surely nothing quite so useless as doing with great efficiency what should not be done at all."

Although most of the real-world examples that Keough cites involve major corporations such as Coca-Cola, IBM, Montgomery Ward, Republic Steel, and Xerox, I think that his observations and recommendations are relevant to just about any organization, whatever its size and nature may be. Although he places Commandment One, "Quit Taking Risks," at the top of his list of ten, my own opinion is that the last, "Lose Your Passion for Work - for Life," should be there. Among the most common causes of failure, not only in business but in life, I agree with Friedrich Hegel: "Nothing great in the world has been accomplished without passion." One man's opinion....

Those who share my high regard for this book are urged to check out these books written by other fantasy dinner guests: Benjamin Franklin's Autobiography, Peter Drucker's Adventures of a Bystander and On the Profession of Management, Jack Welch's Winning (with Suzy Welch), and James M. Kilts's Doing What Matters: How to Get Results That Make a Difference - The Revolutionary Old-School Approach (with John F. Manfredi and Robert Lorber). Also Bill George's Authentic Leadership: Rediscovering the Secrets to Creating Lasting Value and his more recent True Blood: Discover Your Authentic Leadership, John C. Whitehead's A Life In Leadership: From D-Day to Ground Zero: An Autobiography, and Sydney Finkelstein's Why Smart Executives Fail: And What You Can Learn from Their Mistakes.

Make sure you don't follow the commandments
By Viriya Taecharungroj
"While no company can ever embrace all of the world and all of mankind, Coca-Cola comes about as close as any."

"The Ten Commandment for Business Failure" by Donald R. Keough, a former president of the Coca-Cola company, is a small book that, if you follow the instructions, will guide you to be a very successful loser. If you do not want to be one, this book is a must read and take those lessons as a cautionary tale.

Coca-Cola is one of the most recognisable brands on the planet but it was still vulnerable to failures. In this book, Keough tells you stories of Coca-Cola, among other companies, on how it became successful and how it failed at times. When you read the words "failure" and "Coca-Cola", I bet the word "New Coke" sprang to your mind. Despite all the stories from any business book or textbook, in this book, you will have a chance to know it from the former president of Coca-Cola himself.

Contents

Commandment One: Quit Taking Risks
"It's reasonable to think that because when you achieve something, even very little, there is the great temptation to quit taking risks." Apart from telling you the reason that quit taking risk is a sure way to failure, Keough wrote briefly about Xerox and how they quited taking risk.

Commandment Two: Be Inflexible
Keough started this chapter with a story of Coca-Cola bottlers in 1940s-1950s and how they almost brought the company down because of the inflexible practice. This chapter also has the examples of IBM and Ford. All in all, "when the conditions around you change, remain inflexible. Keep on keeping on. Stand firm, You will fail.'

Commandment Three: Isolate Yourself
This chapter targets at those who get yourself a great big office in some remote corner of the most remote executive floor and the shut the door. And also put out a sign: "Don't make the boss mad. Bring me no bad news."

Commandment Four: Assume Infallibility
"If something seems to be heading in the wrong direction, cover up, better yet, wait until you have a full-blown crisis, then blame it on some external force - or blame it on somebody else." Keough wrote about a brief ignorance of Coca-Cola that damaged the reputation dearly in Belgium. There was also a story of Coca-Cola in Germany that Keough admitted he was wrong because he somewhat assumed infallibility.

Commandment Five: Play the Game Close to the Foul Line
He wrote about the problem with the Wall Street that made CFO the rock stars of business instead of being the guardians of the transparency and the fiscal integrity of the corporations. "There is no such thing as business ethics. Just ethics. It's not separated from the rest of your life."

Commandment Six: Don't Take Time to Think
Keough wrote that we are in the generation that is obsessed with technology. People said we are in the `information age' but he disputed that we are in the `data age' with all the ICT (Information and Communication Technology). We need to think and Keough tells you the vice of not thinking.

Commandement Seven: Put All Your Faith in Experts and Outside Consultants
This chapter has the popular case study, New Coke, not on how it failed but how it was caused. There is also a nice anecdote on Coca-Cola wine business.

Commandment Eight: Love Your Bureaucracy
"The bureaucrats who control these (bureaucratic) rituals guard them with their lives because any change undermines their own power or authority." He also mentioned that bureaucracy in one of the main reasons talented individuals left the company. There are some short stories of Coca-Cola, Dell, NASA, etc regarding love of bureaucracy.

Commandment Nine: Send Mixed Message
"It doesn't matter what you do, you'll be rewarded." is an example of a mixed message that Keough wrote about. Mixed messages create confusion. He wrote about Columbia and how Coca-Cola purchasing it sent a mixed message to everyone.

Commandment Ten: Be Afraid of the Future
The pessimists will not push anything forward be it corporations or a society. This chapter, Keough hit on the faces of those with pessimism.

Commandment Eleven: Lose Your Passion for Work - for Life
This is the bonus chapter and Keough wrote on how it is the most important one.

...

Next, I'll compare this book to an ideal business book or a book that is easy to understand, distinct, practical, reliable, insightful, and provides great reading experience.

Ease of Understanding: 9/10: It is a little book written in a plain language and all the commandments were beautifully in sync. You do not have to fret with statistical data or figures, everything is easy to learn and absorb.

Distinction: 4/10: The major difference between this book and others is that it is written by Donald Keough. All the commandments and stories in this book are not new, just from an opposite perspective.

Practicality: 8/10: It is somewhat confusing to define `practicality' of this book. Following the book will definitely lead you to failure and this book is written in a sarcastic tone. Thus, do the opposite and use the commandments in this book as a caution.

Reliability: 9/10: It is very hard to dispute his commandments. Look at the ten (eleven) commandments and try to tell which one will not lead to business failure. I can't, and I don't think anybody can. Although his experience alone is great enough, Keough put together different and interesting (albeit indifferent) stories of other companies and industries.

Insight: 5/10: This book is small and the stories are short. I wish stories, especially Coca-Cola ones, are longer with more insight and details. However, another thing I love about this book is quotations from various people. They are not numerous but I like every single one.

Reading Experience: 9/10: You will finish the book in no time. It is a pleasure to read. The tone of the book is sarcastic, casual, and joyful. I have never and will never have a chance to talk to Donald Keough but from the experience I have from reading the book, I come to think that the foreword by Warren Buffet might be true that "Don talks such sense and offers such inspiration. Don can tell you to go to hell so wonderfully you'll enjoy the journey."

Overall: 7.3/10: Get this book and you will like it. There are some flaws because it is very short but I truly believe that you can find much use of it. Hang this book it front of you office to remind you what you must not do in your business and you will shut the door to failure. By the way, I rarely pay attention to the praises and foreword but this book probably has one of the best compilations; Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Jack Welch, and Rupert Murdoch... well... and George W. Bush!

Another manager's perspective, but entertaining angle
By Bill Gossett
Anyone reading Donald Keough's book would do well to first review books like How to Measure Anything: Finding the Value of "Intangibles" in Business and The Halo Effect: ... and the Eight Other Business Delusions That Deceive Managers just to keep things in perspective. Both of these authors explain why would should temper "expert opinion" even when it's presented as entertainingly as in Keough's book.

As someone who has been reading case studies and "the world as I see it" books by top executives for years, I find that many of the examples Keough lists are very familiar. Of course, the New Coke example has been around since I was in business school but, since he was there, Keough gets a special "insider's" pass and does provide some useful new insight. The other cases are also a little worn, but I don't think I've every been this entertained reading those cases.

The Ten Commandments themselves are also individually familiar. Does an exhortation to keep one's passion and to remember to take risks really ring that profound? No, but, come to think of it, I haven't found them all in one place nor do I think I found them as engaging as you will find in this book.

Keough will also get extra credit for a convincing appeal to authority. Authors which much more mediocre careers have written books with similar observations but Keough comes off as knowing what he is talking about - and still manages some self-deprecating humor.

This was a quick and delightful read and I found myself laughing out loud, pointing out paragraphs in the book to my friends, and email quotes from the book. I plan to anonymously deliver this book to a couple of people who need it most (they may not get the joke, but I will).

Lee Lozano: Dropout Piece (AFTERALL), by Sarah Lehrer-Graiwer

The artist Lee Lozano (1930--1999) began her career as a painter; her work rapidly evolved from figuration to abstraction. In the late 1960s, she created a major series of eleven monochromatic Wave paintings, her last in the medium. Despite her achievements as a painter, Lozano is best known for two acts of refusal, both of which she undertook as artworks: Untitled (General Strike Piece), begun in 1969, in which she cut herself off from the commercial art world for a time; and the so-called Boycott Piece, which began in 1971 as a month-long experiment intended to improve communication but became a permanent hiatus from speaking to or directly interacting with women. In this book, Sarah Lehrer-Graiwer examines Lozano's Dropout Piece, the culmination of her practice, her greatest experiment in art and endurance, encompassing all her withdrawals, and ending only with her burial in an unmarked grave. And yet, although Dropout Piece is among Lozano's most important works, it might not exist at all. There is no conventional artwork to be exhibited, no performance event to be documented. Lehrer-Graiwer views Dropout Piece as leveraging the artist's entire practice and embodying her creative intelligence, her radicality, and her intensity. Combining art history, analytical inquiry, and journalistic investigation, Lehrer-Graiwer examines not only Lozano's act of dropping out but also the evolution over time of Dropout Piece in the context of the artist's practice in New York and her subsequent life in Dallas.

Read it. Twice.
By Rachael Lamkin
Incredibly well written and researched. Its surely an important read for women and artists but i think its also an important tread for anyone pondering the role of their work in the grand scheme.... And, for a book os amazing analytics and sophistication, its oddly a very personal read; for the reader and author. One feels as though the author is herself deeply moved by the subject (although doesn't write as such absent one odd line: "She ate so little that by the end she weighed almost nothing." Can't really explain that line but its the only overly sentimental, exaggerating line in this incredible book.) The only negative is that it is too damn short. Read it twice.

Defeating the Totalitarian Lie: A Former Hitler Youth Warns America, by Hilmar von Campe

“The main preoccupation of my parents during the Nazi years was to save us children from Nazi indoctrination” says Hilmar von Campe. At 10 years old, like every other child, he had to enter the Hitler Youth and at 18 he was conscripted into the army. He was a gunner in a tank in the Yugoslavian theatre fighting the Soviet army, became in 1945 a prisoner of war of the Communist Tito government and in the same year staged a sensational escape crossing seven borders.

His reports about the Nazi years and the war are a lesson of history as he brings facts unknown to most Americans. He describes the why-it came about, his own moral responsibility and how his life changed. The Nazi system, like any other totalitarian system, he says, is based on lies. Lies are at the root of the problem in the world. You can’t defeat them with money or armies but only with the truth.

Hilmar compares developments in American society and in the world today with what happened in pre-Nazi Germany and warns America to turn away now from the destructive ideological path we are on.

Review
You are in a unique position to illuminate the mindset that allowed Hitler to rationolize the extermination of millions of Jews – given your personal travails during that tragic era. Americans would do well to heed your insights into similar dangers facing the today’s world.

Dr. James Dobson
Founder and Chairman of Focus on the Family

Hilmar von Campe has led a life which epitomizes Christ’s message of salvation of sin. The reader (of your book How was it Possible?) will be profoundly inspired and educated by Hilmar’s eloquent account of his journey from one complicit in evil to a man who has become a Christian exemplar par excellence.

Howard Phillips
Twice a presidential candidate
Chairman of the Conservative Caucus

Free societies survive by self-correction and the unceasing search for truth. Hilmar von Campe’s life story exemplifies that ethic of honesty, from his early years in the Hitler Youth to his impassioned witness as an American patriot today. You will treasure this book.

John Andrews
Former President, Colorado Senate
Host, Backbone Radio

I was tremendously impressed with the main theme of the story and of course I openly cried, as I read about the suffering that your dad had to endure….I applaud you as a practicing catholic, for your emphasis on the importance of keeping his commandments. I marvel at your insightfulness in targetig the ACLU as a destructive organizationand that we better sit up and take notice.

Albert Chestone
FBI agent (ret.)

The story is dynamite with explosive potential to shape the moral composition of America and awaken its atrophied national conscience. Your personal saga is intensely dramatic and deeply human evoking a torrid melting pot of emotions and sparking countless morally rich ideas through your candor in sharing your failures, tragedies and triumphs. The transposing of the impact a nation’s morality and attitude toward God has upon its destiny with your inside story of Hitler’s rise and fall as a German citizen, along with your insights into the shrouded portions of the War’s history is huge. It is a very powerful way to communicate truth and holds much promise. I think it has tremendous marketability, and incredible potential to shape the thinking of your readers.

Rick Kern
Journalist

HappyHour enforced by law?
By M. Malone
Will the day come when you are either at work, at home, or at a pre-designated 'holiday' attraction....or violating the law, & subject to arrest, for being somewhere other than the forementioned ? Has the swastika returned disguised as a big yellow 'Happy Face' that says "Have A Nice Day". Imagine what the Third Reich might've been had the foundation of blood-purity been deleted. Yes, the NAZI agenda is alive & well....and flourishing in the minds of powerful & influencial individuals....most of whom call the United States their home. The middle-class confuses the upper classes, and gives hope to the lower classes.....how simple it would be to just let the rich get richer and the poor KEPT RIGHT WHERE THEY ARE...eliminating the middle-class exsistance all together. Afterall, we are better people....er ...I'm a better person than so-n-so because I live there, and drive that, am married & the parent of them, work for this global corporation, am fanatically protective of my credit rating(moreso than of my children!), and won't bother to hear anything from anyone else because I've been told who to listen to for the truth. The rest of you suckers are gonna get on the box cars, 'your luggage will follow'.......and "POOF!".....a perfect society with no crime & everybody doing their best....oh, and it's so colorful...all races and religions are represented....such structure & discipline....efficiency......the poor, sick, & elderly relieved by 'acts of God'. Those are beautiful, designer, drapes in the windows of the new DEATH CAMP offices......BUT this is all my interpretation...read the book and WAKE UP ! Take a look at the future & leave it behind!!!

Leaders Reflect the People Governed
By Samson
I lived in West Germany for 8 years before the fall of the Berlin Wall and spoke with Germans who had experienced Hitler first hand. Hilmar von Campe's story and explanation for what happened sounds remarkably like theirs. Some people would like to say that this book is warning of the perils of unbridled Democratic Party power; others of unchecked Republican Party exploits. Campe, like those German citizens I knew, argue otherwise. They would say -- look in the mirror. The Bible says (and I'm paraphrasing here) that people get the leaders they deserve. If George Bush bothers you -- look in the mirror. If Barrack Obama bothers you -- look in the mirror. Campe's central premise is that the collapse in moral standards has set the stage for the rise of National Socialism (NAZI) / Communism / Liberal Fascism, (or some other brand of radical socialism)in the United States. If you didn't get that when you read the book, then re-read it with an open mind. The past 20 years of national politics have seen ever greater abuses of power, a more and more dumbed down electorate, elections based increasingly on cult and not substance, and a progressive collapse of morality. This goes beyond political parties; beyond the Republicrats we are force fed every four years; to the heart of what is ailing America and how to get back on track. This book represents hard core analysis from an insider who lived it; not theoretical intellectual hype. Get the book. Read it. And THINK.

great book. a should read for all in America
By Caroline A. Bennetti
This book tells how Nazi Germany was formed. The reader will see very similar things happening in the US today. Especially since Obama has become president. The Nazis were not facists, they were the National Socialist party. It CAN happen here in America if people do not pay attention

So so gun dog training book
By Girl 415
A friend recommended this book but I didn't like it. I don't agree with many of the training methods and a lot of the content seemed very old school. I couldn't get into the stories told throughout the book in addition to the training advice. Might be better with someone looking to train a very young puppy.

Best Way to Train Your Dog : The Delmar Smith Method
By Richard Calloway
I hunt quail in South Texas with pointers and setters. Next fall will mark my 35th hunting year; hunting behind birddogs. I currently own 3 Elhew pointers and 2 English Setters. Over the last 35 years I have had the pleasure to share my life and quail hunting adventures with well over 40 dogs, mostly pointers. Mr. Tarrant has put into words the wisdom of a man who not only understands birddogs but reinforces the common sense psycology of dog training. This book explains exactly what every bird hunter who hunts over a brace of dogs needs to read each year prior to bird season. Not only are the methods humane they are eaisly understood by the dog, which is the most important element in dog training and bird hunting. Mr. Delmar Smith is to dog training as what Thomas Edision was to the light bulb. I wish Delmar was still conducting training seminars; the next best thing is reading this book !
