Dr. Steve Peters is a Consultant Psychiatrist who specializes in optimizing the functioning of the mind. He is Undergraduate Dean at Sheffield University Medical School and the resident psychiatrist with the British Cycling and Sky ProCycling teams.

A Simple Mind Map

As a recreational cyclist of 50 years or so and an amateur racer for the past 30 years and a follower of pro cycling, I had read frequent references to chimps in relation to the elite athletes of British Cycling. I had also read of Dr Steve Peters who works with British Cycling and the Sky Procycling Team. I also knew that his work with the athletes had been extremely successful in helping them win a string of Olympic Gold Medals in Beijing 2008.

I was therefore curious as to what the fuss was about. This book neatly and clearly sums up the concepts applied by the author in his work. His thesis is that we all have 3 parts to our brain, a Chimp who works on emotion and sees things in black and white and a Human who is calm, sensible and logical. Both struggle for control and often the Chimp wins and make us do things in sport and everyday life that we might regret. The Chimp and the Human program the third part of our brain which is the Computer. In other words the part that allows us (amongst other things) to ride a bike, drive a car, and behave in a reasonable manner towards our fellow humans.

Using the concepts and ideas in the book, one can learn how to manage the Chimp to get the best out of sport, work and life. It also teaches us how to recognize and work around other people's Chimps.

I found this book gave me a great insight into the way I used to react to sporting, work and general life situations. It alerted me to the existence of my Chimp and gave me some tools to manage it.

The book is an excellent tool for planning sporting objectives.

Don't expect this book to give you the answers to life's problems but it will certainly give you the tools to help you deal with them.

Wow, this is amazing. You must read this book!

I bought the book because of Dr Peters' reputation, especially from his work within the world of sports psychology.

I read the book in two days and have since bought 4 further copies for my immediate family.

Incredible to say, but this paperback can really change your life. It is written in layman's terms and explains how you can change the way you live your life for the better by understanding what makes you unhappy, angry or frustrated and helping you to be happy and contented instead. This may sound unlikely but Dr Peters manages to describe the problems we all face every day and how to deal with them using simple, practical examples and exercises. I now realise that I can choose to be happy, content and fulfilled and I am working towards that on a daily basis.

I can honestly say this book is changing my life and I would recommend it to anyone!

About the Author
George Campbell served until 2002 as the chief security officer (CSO) at Fidelity Investments, the largest mutual fund company in the United States, with more than $2 trillion in customer assets and 32,500 employees. Under Campbell’s leadership, the global corporate security organization delivered a wide range of proprietary services including information security, disaster recovery planning and crisis management, criminal investigations, fraud prevention, property and executive protection, and proprietary security system design, engineering, and installation. Since leaving Fidelity, Campbell has served as a content expert for the Security Executive Council, of which he is a founding Emeritus Faculty member.

Prior to working at Fidelity Investments, Campbell owned a security and consulting firm, which specialized in risk assessment and security program management. He has also been group vice president at a system engineering firm that supported government security programs at high-threat sites around the world. Early on in his career, Campbell worked in the criminal justice system, and served in various line and senior management positions within federal, state, and local government agencies.

Campbell received his bachelor’s degree in police administration from American University in Washington, D.C. He served on the board of directors of the International Security Management Association (ISMA), and as ISMA’s president in 2003. Campbell is also a long-time member of ASIS International. He is a former member of the National Council on Crime Prevention, the High Technology Crime Investigation Association, and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and is an alumnus of the U.S. State Department’s Overseas Security Advisory Council.

An excellent addition to the literature on medical marijuana

This book is a combination of an easy to read history of medical marijuana and the politics that have kept it away from the public. It is also an extensive overview of how medical marijuana interacts with the body cells in a way that alleviates many kinds of illnesses. From my perspective, the latter is most suited for physicians and researchers. However, if you have one of the illnesses discussed in the book, you will likely gain some valuable insights. If it inspires you to consider cannabis as part of your treatment, then it is well worth the price of admission. This book is an excellent addition to the literature on the medical use of marijuana and hopefully will inspire more physicians and patients to make it part of their healing tools.

The Terror Beneath Our Feet

Richard Shaver never went looking for trouble. It found him one day as he labored as a spot welder at an automobile factory in Detroit in the 1940s, and once it had him in his clutches, it never let go. The problem started as voices, the disembodied kind that have been a torment to those who hear them since the beginning of time.

Shaver at first felt he was going crazy. He could hear the screams of tortured men and women, as well as the conversations of those implementing the torture. The voices were more than Shaver could cope with, and he soon left his job and began to bum around the country in an effort to somehow silence the horrifying din in his ears. Instead of a blissful escape, he was instead forced to confront directly the "demons" when they kidnapped him and took him to their home turf, a dark world deep down under the ground

He came to call his abductors the "dero," short for "detrimental robot," and to blame them for most of the ills we surface dwellers suffer from, including disease, madness and the never ending strife of warfare. Shaver believed the dero had once been a reasonable and technologically advanced race, but when the sun began to emit dangerous radiation, they were forced to go underground, where they continued to undergo the debilitating effects of the poisonous solar energy. Those effects eventually led them to madness and depths of wickedness previously unknown on this fragile planet.

There are perhaps many reading this review that are already familiar with Shaver's story. For those of you long since acquainted with the facts just presented, Global Communications has something new to offer you: "Richard Shaver: Reality of the Inner Earth." The book consists of a collection of previously unpublished writings by Shaver that were discovered by accident when a pipe burst in the home of publisher Timothy Green Beckley. As Beckley scrambled to save some of his files from being ruined by the water, he stumbled across some writings by Shaver that had lain forgotten in his collection of old manuscripts.

What a fortunate turn of events! A large portion of what Beckley was able to salvage is now being offered to both old-time Shaver buffs and neophytes of the world underground. And the new stories are as incredible as the old ones. There is for instance the story of how Shaver is abducted by a particularly wicked dero who demands that Shaver turn over to him a rock in his possession which the dero believes has great mystical powers. As part of the torture he endures, Shaver is forced to witness a strange erotic dance by four beautiful, naked women who are operated like puppets by the evil underground dweller.

There is also the story of Shaver taking a lover, a woman named "Nydia," who appears in a mist to him one day as he lays in his bedroom contemplating his predicament with the dero. Shaver shares a passionate relationship with Nydia, but she eventually tires of him and moves on. The writing style in which Shaver tells these stories, while rough in some places, at other times flows like wonderful stream-of-consciousness poetry.

Along with the newly revealed stories by Shaver, the book also includes a chapter written by a woman named Margaret Rogers. She was a heroin addict haunting the streets of Mexico City in the 1940s, when a kindly doctor friend brought her to a strange underground world where she was cured of her addiction and reprogrammed to lead a respectable life on the surface by compassionate men and women who were fifteen-feet-tall. Their world beneath the earth is a benevolent paradise in contrast to the dero's malevolent hell.

There are also chapters by Dennis Crenshaw and the book's editor, Tim Swartz, that fill in some of the historical blanks in the Shaver/dero story. Swartz puts a shine on some of Shaver's often less than polished prose, as Ray Palmer, the publisher who first brought the Shaver Mysteries to the public's attention, had had to do as well. The package comes complete with a captivating CD of an interview with author and publisher Beckley conducted by radio show icon Hilly Rose. Beckley was a friend and confidant to both Shaver and Palmer, and his intimate knowledge of the subject makes for a fascinating listening experience.

If you're interested in the paranormal but want something a little different from the standard UFO or government conspiracy book, then you should check out "Richard Shaver: Reality of the Inner Earth." For those who know the basics of the Shaver Mysteries, it offers fascinating accounts written by Shaver in his later years that are available to the public for the first time. And for those new to the subject, dive in feet first and take a plunge into a deep and enigmatic netherworld that threatens us with its darkeness even as it enthralls us.

Shaver gives a vivid description of his studio, how he learned to "read" rock books, and what a day in this studio was like. It has Shaver's take on deros, too, if you're into that part of the Shaver Mystery!

Fills In Some Gaps

If you're interested in the weird writings, musings, and theories of Richard S. Shaver, then this book fills in a few gaps. Be warned though--some of the material is explicit!

This is a needed addition to anyone who studies Shaver, or even conspiracy literature in general.
